Prof. Will Irving
Will Irving has been Professor and Honorary Consultant in Virology at the University of Nottingham and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust since 2002.
He currently chairs the National Viral Hepatitis Strategy Group, having previously chaired the Department of Health Expert Advisory Group on Hepatitis and is also a member of the UK Government Advisory Committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs (SaBTO).
His research interest is in the natural history of hepatitis C virus infection. He co-chairs “HCV Research UK”, a multi-centre consortium creating a national cohort, clinical database and biobank of 12,000 patients infected with HCV initially set-up with a £2 million grant from the Medical Research Foundation, is a Steering Committee member of the MRC Stratified Medicine consortium STOP-HCV (£5.2 million funding), and is co-lead of the Department of Health Policy Research Programme “Hepatitis CAwareness Through to Treatment (HepCATT, £1.1 million).
He is a keen bridge player, and has an irrational and sometimes debilitating interest in the fortunes of Leeds Utd and Leeds Rhinos.
